Theo Walcott: This new Arsenal signing has changed our game
Theo Walcott heaps praise on Petr Cech for the impact he has had at Arsenal since arriving in the summer
Theo Walcott has heaped praise on Petr Cech for “completely changing” Arsenal’s defending since his arrival from Chelsea in the summer.
Cech has been a regular fixture in the Gunners’ first-team this season and kept his seventh clean sheet of the campaign during Arsenal’s 2-0 win over Aston Villa on Sunday afternoon.
The goalkeeper has kept 169 clean sheets for both Chelsea and Arsenal since arriving in England during the summer of 2004.
He’s changed us completely in that back four
And Walcott, who won the penalty for Arsenal’s opener at Villa Park on Sunday, has stressed the impact Cech has had since arriving at the north London club.
“From when we signed him, we all knew how good he was [after] what he achieved at Chelsea,” Walcott told Arsenal Player. “On a personal level, for him it’s great.
“He’s changed us completely in that back four. He’s a talker, he believes in us all.
“That’s why he wanted to join us and having with that presence behind you is always nice to have. He’s very commanding, he’s a leader in the dressing room as well, he always likes to talk.”
Sunday’s win lifted Arsenal to the top of the Premier League table ahead of Leicester City’s clash with Chelsea at the King Power Stadium on Monday night.
The Gunners now have a week to prepare for their crunch top-flight clash against Manchester City at Emirates Stadium on Monday 21 December.
