Thierry Henry was impressed by Olivier Giroud's performance during Arsenal's win over Aston Villa
Thierry Henry picked Olivier Giroud as his man of the match after the French striker helped to fire Arsenal to a 2-0 win over Aston Villa on Sunday afternoon.
The Gunners took the lead in the eighth minute when Giroud netted his fourth goal in two games from the penalty spot after Theo Walcott was clumsily bundled down by Alan Hutton in the box.
Man of the match Aaron Ramsey then made it 2-0 seven minutes before half-time when he slotted home from close range after being found by Mesut Ozil.
Giroud has been in fine form for Arsenal in recent weeks and netted his 50th Premier League goal at Villa Park on Sunday.
And former Arsenal forward Henry was thoroughly impressed by Giroud’s display against the Villains.
Speaking on Sky Sports after Sunday’s victory, Henry said: “His all-round play today and work-rate [was exceptional]. He does it with ease at times.
“At times he will also do the dirty work. He is always available – that’s one of the things I like about him. He will always ask for the ball.
“And to top it, he scored again. Well done to him and Arsenal – they are flying.”
Sunday’s win lifted Arsenal to the top of the Premier League table ahead of Leicester City’s clash with Chelsea on Monday.
The Gunners host title rivals Manchester City in their next Premier League game on Monday 21 December.
