Arsenal legend Thierry Henry reacts to Tottenham’s 2-1 loss
Thierry Henry reflects on Tottenham's dramatic 2-1 loss to Newcastle United at White Hart Lane
Thierry Henry admitted that Hugo Lloris will be left to rue a costly mistake as Newcastle came from a goal down to stun Tottenham 2-1 at White Hart Lane on Sunday afternoon.
Spurs took the lead in the 39th minute at White Hart Lane when Eric Dier headed home Christian Eriksen’s corner.
However, Newcastle fought back and drew level in the 74th minute when substitute Aleksandar Mitrovic tapped home after a scramble inside the six-yard box.
Substitute Ayoze Perez then netted a dramatic late winner in the 90th minute as Lloris was caught out by a quick shot at his near post.
The result meant that Spurs missed the chance to move into top four and left them in fifth place in the Premier League table.
And speaking on Sky Sports after the game, Arsenal legend Henry admitted that Lloris will have been very disappointed at his failure to prevent the winner.
Henry said: “Hugo Lloris has to do way, way better.
“You almost can save that with your foot, but the goalkeepers have a tendency to go down and try to get it with their hands – and they lost the game.”
He continued: “Tottenham lost their way in terms of structure offensively.
“They were not respecting the shape of [Mauricio] Pochettino, no one was out wide any more, they were all trying to hurt Newcastle inside of the field, not out – and that suited Newcastle.”
