Thierry Henry: Why Man United are nervous over Pep Guardiola
Thierry Henry explains why Manchester United are nervous
Thierry Henry says Manchester United will need to appoint a big name if Manchester City land Pep Guardiola.
The former Spain midfielder is set to step down as Bayern Munich manager at the end of the season after having led the German side to back-to-back Bundesliga titles.
Chelsea, City and United have all been touted as potential destinations for Barcelona legend in recent weeks, and the Citizens are favourites to secure Guardiola’s signature.
And Henry, who played under the Spanish manager during his career at Barcelona, explained why he believes United are looking nervously over at their city rivals.
“They’re scared of what is happening on the other side of the city,” Henry told Sky Sports.
“If Man City get Pep Guardiola, Man United will feel that they need to get someone big.”
United are in fifth place in the Premier League table after a 2-1 loss to Norwich City at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.
Louis van Gaal’s latest Premier League setback has prompted speculation that Guardiola or Jose Mourinho could replace the Dutchman unless United’s performances improve.
The 20-time English champions make the trip to Stoke City on Boxing Day.
