Van Gaal delivers latest Man United injury update after West Ham draw
Louis van Gaal admits that Morgan Schneiderlin and Paddy McNair could miss Manchester United's trip to Wolfsburg
Louis van Gaal has confirmed that both Morgan Schneiderlin and Paddy McNair picked up injuries during Manchester United’s goalless draw with West Ham United on Saturday.
Midfielder Schneiderlin played 44 minutes of the stalemate at Old Trafford before being subbed off before half-time with a hip problem.
McNair, meanwhile, came off at the interval with an ankle injury, as Guillermo Varela came on to make his first-team debut for the Red Devils at Old Trafford.
Quizzed about the pair’s fitness levels after the game, Van Gaal conceded that they are both doubts for United’s clash with Wolfsburg in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
Van Gaal told MUTV: “Paddy McNair has an ankle problem and Schneiderlin is a little bit stiff in the hip, so we have to wait and see as always on that.
“I hope they can play on Tuesday but it is a very short [turnaround] so it is a very big question mark.”
United had 21 shots on goal but they could only direct one shot on target during the whole game against the Hammers.
Saturday’s result, which was United’s fourth draw in their last six Premier League games, left the Red Devils in fourth place in the table and three points behind leaders Leicester City.
