Wayne Bridge: Why Chelsea won’t make top four

Wayne Bridge runs the rule over Chelsea's top-four prospects

Wayne Bridge says Chelsea won’t finish in the Premier League’s top four this season.

The Blues suffered their eighth defeat of the Premier League campaign on Saturday evening after a 1-0 defeat by newly-promoted Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge.

Jose Mourinho’s side are languishing in 15th place and just two points above the Premier League relegation zone, whilst leaders Leicester City are 17 points ahead of the defending champions.

Louis van Gaal’s struggling Manchester United side are still 14 points ahead of bitter rivals Chelsea despite their goalless draw with West Ham United at Old Trafford last weekend.

Former Chelsea defender Bridge believes Mourinho’s men have too much ground to make up in the race for a top-four finish and reckons the Premier League holders will drop more points as the season unfolds.

“I speak to people who think it’s not out of reach but for me personally they would have to do something spectacular and it only takes a draw or two. It’s a big ask,” said Bridge, speaking exclusively to 888poker.com.

Former England defender Bridge won the Premier League, the FA Cup and the League Cup during a five-year Chelsea career.
