West Ham star: Why Man United star Anthony Martial has amazed me
West Ham defender Angelo Ogbonna explains why Anthony Martial was his toughest opponent of the season so far
Angelo Ogbonna says Manchester United striker Anthony Martial is the player that has most impressed him in the Premier League this season.
The West Ham United defender moved Upton Park from Serie A champions Juventus in the summer transfer window after Slaven Bilic was appointed as Sam Allardyce’s successor.
Martial completed a move to United in a £36m deal on the final day of the summer transfer window to become the most-expensive teenager in Europe.
And West Ham defender Ogbonna explained why France international Martial was the standout opponent of his initial six months in the Premier League.
“Manchester United’s Anthony Martial, he has an amazing personality,” Ogbonna told Gazzetta dello Sport.
“It is not easy to come over here at just 19 years old and put on the shirt of a club like United and break through straight away.
“Wayne Rooney also represents English football, whilst Arsenal’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain impresses me a lot – he is a complete talent and it surprises me that Arsene Wenger doesn’t use him more.”
Martial scored his fourth Premier League goal in a 2-1 loss to Norwich City at Old Trafford in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
The United striker has also scored twice in the Champions League, although Martial was unable to prevent the Red Devils crashing out in the group stage.
Louis van Gaal’s side make the trip to Stoke City on Boxing Day.
