Arsenal secured their place in the last 16 of the Champions League in thrilling style on Wednesday night thanks to a 3-0 win over Olympiacos in Athens.

Olivier Giroud hit a brilliant hat-trick as Arsene Wenger’s men produced an impressive display to ensure that the north London side finished second in their group behind winners Bayern Munich.

Wenger’s Arsenal have now made it through out of the first group stage of the Champions League for the 16th successive season.

The Gunners produced an impressive turnaround this season after losses to both Dinamo Zagreb and Olympiacos left them without a single point from their opening two group games.

Attentions will now turn to Monday’s Champions League last-16 draw, when Arsenal will discover their opponents in the first knockout round of Europe’s elite club competition.

The north London side will be pitted against one of the other group winners, but not Chelsea or Manchester City.

That leaves Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Barcelona, Zenit St Petersburg and Wolfsburg as the potential Champions League last 16 opponents for Arsenal this season.

Before Monday’s Champions League last 16 draw, Arsenal will turn their attentions back to domestic affairs and their trip to Aston Villa in the Premier League on Sunday.

A victory for Wenger’s men at Villa Park would lift them top of the Premier League table ahead of Leicester City’s clash with Manchester United on Monday night.

Chelsea qualified for the last 16 as group winners thanks to a 2-0 victory over Porto on Wednesday night. That result means that the Blues will either face Paris Saint-Germain, PSV Eindhoven, Benfica, Juventus, Roma or Gent in the next round.

Manchester City also progressed top of their group and could line up against Paris Saint-Germain, PSV Eindhoven, Benfica, Roma, Dynamo Kiev or Gent in the last 16.

The Champions League last 16 draw takes place at 11:00 GMT on Monday 14 December 2015.
