Alan Shearer says Tottenham Hotspur are no longer a “soft touch” under manager Mauricio Pochettino.

The north London side are in fourth place in the Premier League table and only six points adrift of north London rivals and leaders Arsenal.

Pochettino’s side are the Premier League’s form side after a four-game unbeaten run in the top flight following last weekend’s 1-1 draw at Everton.

Tottenham have the best defensive record in the Premier League and Pochettino’s side have only lost twice in 20 top-flight games so far this term.

Former Newcastle United striker Shearer, who won the Premier League with Blackburn Rovers in 1995, believes Tottenham are an entirely different proposition under Pochettino.

Speaking ahead of Sunday’s FA Cup third-round tie, Shearer told BBC Sport: “When I used to play against Spurs, I thought we’d be alright today. They have been a soft touch. But, under this guy, they a different side. They have a solid base.”

Pochettino took over the reins from Tim Sherwood at White Hart Lane in 2014 after a 16-month spell in charge at Southampton.
