Alan Smith pinpoints what Arsenal need in the January transfer window
Alan Smith says Arsenal don't need any more signings this month
Alan Smith says Arsenal do not need to make any further signings in the January transfer window – because the Gunners are set to be boosted by the returns of key players in the coming weeks.
The Gunners have already moved to bring in Mohamed Elneny from FC Basel as Arsene Wenger opted to strengthen his midfield options following injuries to the likes of Santi Cazorla, Francis Coquelin and Jack Wilshere.
Arsenal have inevitably been linked with a host of other players in recent days as the speculation during the January transfer window gathers pace.
However, former Arsenal man Smith does not feel that the north London side need to make any further new recruits, as long as their key men return to action in the next few weeks.
Speaking on Sky Sports News HQ on Tuesday morning, Smith said: “Danny Welbeck is apparently only three weeks away and that will help them if he comes back in the kind of form he is capable of.
“Any manager would love to get in a world-class player to give the dressing room a lift, but it’s so difficult and I don’t think it’s going to happen.
“I think they’ve got enough. They didn’t have (Mesut) Ozil or (Alexis) Sanchez at Stoke and they were able to cope with that, and they’re due back soon so they’re not far off full strength.”
Arsenal are gearing up for their crunch clash with Chelsea on Sunday after their goalless draw at Stoke at the weekend.
