Alex Teixeira worth a punt for Liverpool, says insider
Liverpool target Alex Teixeira previously wanted to join Chelsea, according to BBC Sport's Phil Vickery
Alex Teixeira would be a good signing for Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool, according to South American football expert Phil Vickery.
The Reds are being linked with a £25m offer for the Shakthar Donetsk playmaker after Liverpool chief executive reportedly flew out to Florida to seal a deal for the Brazilian.
Teixeira has scored 22 goals in 15 games in the Ukrainian top-flight, while the 26-year-old has netted three times in six Champions League appearances.
Liverpool have only scored 28 goals in 22 Premier League games so far this season, highlighting their much-documented struggles up front.
BBC Sport’s South American football journalist explained why Teixeira is worth a punt for the Reds, before Vickery added that the player previously expressed his desire to join Chelsea.
“You’d hope that Jurgen Klopp has got himself deal there,” Vickey told Second Captains.
“He’ll have a considerable say in what happens. I would certainly think Alex Teixeira is well worth a punt. Although he gave a huge interview to the Brazilian press a couple of months ago, more or less crying for Chelsea to get him.
“But his impression was Shakthar wouldn’t let him go, this was a deal if it takes place, would have to take place in the summer.
“Although money talks, so if Liverpool or anyone else arrive with the cash on the table, perhaps it could happen quicker.”
Teixeira has scored 67 goals in 146 games for the Ukrainian side over the past five years.
The Shakthar midfielder hasn’t made a senior appearance for the Brazil national team.
