Andy Gray states his prediction for Exeter v Liverpool

Andy Gray is tipping Liverpool to beat Exeter 3-1 in the FA Cup on Friday night

Andy Gray is backing Liverpool to take their first step towards FA Cup glory by beating Exeter in the third round on Friday night.

The Reds head into the game after having recorded a 1-0 victory over Stoke City in the first leg of their League Cup semi-final clash on Tuesday night.

Liverpool have struggled to find consistent form under new manager Jurgen Klopp this season since the German’s appointment as Brendan Rodgers’ successor at Anfield.

The Reds have recorded impressive wins against the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City in the Premier League but have also suffered a number of defeats by the likes of Watford and most recently, West Ham United.

But despite the Merseyside outfit’s inconsistent form, former Everton man Gray is fully expecting to see Liverpool wrap up a comfortable victory over Exeter in the cup on Friday night.

Gray wrote in his blog for Paddy Power: “Liverpool have had really good cup results against the odds. There are no real cup upsets these days, probably down to the deep squads.

“Exeter have lost four in a row, and Liverpool will want to send a statement out to the rest of the teams in this competition. They’ll ring the changes, but should still have enough. I’m saying Liverpool 3-1.”
