Andy Gray states his prediction for Man United v Southampton
Andy Gray is backing Manchester United to ease to victory over Southampton on Saturday
Andy Gray has backed Manchester United to turn a corner against Southampton at Old Trafford on Saturday.
The Red Devils are unbeaten in their last four Premier League games following a 1-0 victory over Liverpool at Anfield last weekend.
I think Louis van Gaal will have a breakthrough on Saturday
United captain Wayne Rooney, 30, scored a second-half winner to net his fifth goal in four games in all competitions.
Southampton, meanwhile, have lost their last four away games in the Premier League, including defeats by Manchester City and West Ham United.
Former Aston Villa and Everton forward Gray believes Louis van Gaal could be set for a breakthrough weekend against the Saints at Old Trafford.
“Southampton are starting to play again, they’ve strung together back to back wins impressively. People can still get at United, and Ronald Koeman knows that,” Gray told Paddy Power’s blog.
“The stat about United’s home games is incredible. Now teams are going to Old Trafford looking to suffocate them for half an hour and make the crowd anxious. But I think Louis van Gaal will have a breakthrough on Saturday.
“I think it’ll be Wayne Rooney to open the scoring as well, four in his last four games and he’s chasing down Charlton’s record.
United are in fifth place in the Premier League table and two points behind fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur in the race to secure a spot in next season’s Champions League.
Van Gaal’s side are seven points adrift of current Premier League leaders Arsenal, who face defending champions Chelsea in Sunday’s late kick-off.
