Andy Murray met Australia's most famous animal as the Scot prepares for the first grand slam of 2016

Andy Murray has taken some time out of his training schedule to meet Australia’s most famous animal.

The British No1 is currently Down Under as he prepares for the first grand slam of the year at the Australian Open in Melbourne.

Murray visited Kings Park in Perth on Thursday morning and met Sunshine the koala.

“I only met a koala once before at the Aussie Open and I don’t remember them being so big. I got a couple of scratch marks on the back there but, yeah, it was nice,” Murray is quoted as saying by the Daily Mail.

“I would say so (I’m more comfortable on court than holding a koala). But I love animals, I always have, always grew up with pets and stuff so it’s nice to meet some of them.”

Murray heads into 2016 full of confidence after helping to inspire Great Britain to the Davis Cup title.
