Piers Morgan could not help but poke fun at Manchester United after the Red Devils slumped to a 1-0 defeat by Southampton at Old Trafford on Saturday.

United headed into the game looking to build on their 1-0 win over Liverpool at Anfield last weekend but were unable to break down the stubborn Saints in front of their home fans.

After a goalless first half, January signing Charlie Austin scored the winner in the 87th minute when he headed the visitors in front.

The defeat heaped yet more misery on Louis van Gaal, whose side have struggled to find consistent form this season and have now only won two of their last 10 Premier League games.

And celebrity Arsenal fan Morgan could not help but aim a dig at United on social media as they headed towards the defeat.

Morgan tweeted:

The result left United fifth in the Premier League table and five points behind fourth-placed Tottenham.
