Arsenal showing title-winning qualities, declares Alan Smith

Alan Smith has been impressed by Arsenal's resilient performances in recent weeks

Arsenal are beginning to show the needed resilience to win the Premier League title, according to Alan Smith.

The Gunners were held to a goalless draw by Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium on Sunday after being pegged back and having to settle for a point in last week’s thrilling 3-3 stalemate with Liverpool.

Arsenal are currently top of the Premier League table on goal difference heading into their crunch clash against Chelsea at Emirates Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Arsene Wenger’s side have had to deal with a number of injuries to key players, including the likes of Santi Cazorla, Francis Coquelin, Jack Wilshere and Danny Welbeck in recent weeks.

And former Arsenal man Smith feels that the north London side will be happy to have taken two points from testing away games in recent days.

Speaking on Sky Sports News HQ on Tuesday morning, Smith said: “I think those are two good draws at Liverpool and Stoke. I know they could have won it easily at Anfield but in years gone by, they would have lost that game at Stoke.

“They didn’t use to be able to grind out those draws and wins in the difficult games. When they’re not at the top of the game and not playing that lovely football that we’re used to, they can get results.

“That’s the stuff of champions and you’ve got to have that if you’re going to win the league. That resilience will please Arsene Wenger.”

Arsenal are looking to win the Premier League for the first time since the 2003-04 campaign.
