Mikel Arteta played for the Arsenal Under-21s on Tuesday as the midfielder closes in on a return to action for the first team
Mikel Arteta has handed Arsenal a boost after the Spanish midfielder featured for the north London club’s Under-21 side on Tuesday.
Arteta has been out of action since his disappointing appearance during the 2-1 loss to West Bromwich Albion in the Premier League at the end of November, when he came on as a substitute only to score an own goal and suffer a calf injury.
However, the midfielder has now handed Arsene Wenger’s side a timely boost by featuring during Arsenal’s Under-21 3-2 win over Blackburn Rovers on Tuesday at the club’s London Colney training ground.
Arteta will be hoping to prove his fitness and earn a recall to the Arsenal side for this weekend’s FA Cup third-round clash against Sunderland at The Emirates.
