Arsenal set to sign teenager before deadline, confirms family member
Kelechi Nwakali is closing in on a January transfer to join Arsenal, according to his brother
Kelechi Nwakali’s brother has confirmed that the teenager will complete his transfer to Arsenal this month once he is granted a visa.
The 17-year-old midfielder has been heavily linked with a transfer to Emirates Stadium after he led Nigeria to glory in the Under-17 World Cup last year.
Arsene Wenger is believed to be on the lookout for further reinforcements for his Arsenal squad after securing the signing of Mohamed Elneny from FC Basel last week.
There have been suggestions that Nwakali’s move to Arsenal could be on the brink of falling through, but the player’s elder brother Allwell has insisted that the transfer remains on track.
Allwell Nwakali told Nigerian website Complete Sports: “I don’t think there’s anything to fear about the deal not going on as planned.
“Given the type of visa we applied for, we hope it will be available within the shortest possible time.
“Don’t forget, there are always ways such transactions that are done, so I assure you we’ll get there. There are no threats whatsoever on Kelechi’s Arsenal move, this I assure you. We’ve no worries at all as everything is moving according to plans.
“Arsenal are known to have a good programme for young players. They develop young stars and enhance their careers.”
Arsenal are currently third in the Premier League after their 1-0 loss to Chelsea at Emirates Stadium last weekend.
The Gunners host Burnley in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Saturday.
The January transfer window closes on Monday evening in the UK.
