Arsenal told to splash the cash in the January transfer window
Tony Cascarino has urged Arsene Wenger to bolster his Arsenal squad during the winter transfer window
Tony Cascarino has told Arsene Wenger to do what he can to bolster his Arsenal squad during the January transfer window to give his side the boost they need to win the title this season.
The Gunners headed into 2016 top of the Premier League table and tipped by many to be serious contenders to lift the top-flight trophy for the first time since 2004.
Arsenal have inevitably been linked with a host of players in recent days as Wenger considers adding to his squad to boost their title hopes.
And Cascarino feels that Arsenal should look to bring in some talent in January, even if only to send a message to the club’s current crop of players.
Speaking on Sky Sports News HQ on Monday morning, Cascarino said: “If you think you can win the title, and Arsenal are in that position, you don’t want to be reflecting back at the start of next season thinking: ‘should I have got someone, should I have added to the group?’ You want to. You want to lift them.
“Bringing in players gives a lift to the squad and if feels like the mentality is: ‘we’re buying him to try to win the title, we’re adding this player to give us a bit more to get over the line’.
“And I think it always sends a message within the group.”
Arsenal moved two points clear at the top of the Premier League table on Saturday afternoon thanks to a 1-0 victory over Newcastle United at The Emirates.
The Gunners, who finished third last season, have won the FA Cup for the last two years running.
