Arsene Wenger confirms that Arsenal are on the verge of signing Mohamed Elneny from FC Basel

Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Arsenal are on the verge of signing Mohamed Elneny from FC Basel and says the midfielder could face Stoke City in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

The Gunners have been trying to push through a deal to sign the Egypt international for a number of days, but the transfer has been held up by work permit issues.

However, it now appears that the north London club are finally going to wrap up their first signing of the January transfer window by confirming a deal for the 23-year-old midfielder in the coming days.

Speaking after watching his Arsenal side play out a thrilling 3-3 draw with Liverpool at Anfield on Wednesday night, Wenger was asked about Elneny’s proposed transfer to The Emirates.

And Wenger told his post-match news conference: “Elneny will join us. We will see if he can qualify for Sunday.”
