Bastian Schweinsteiger takes to social media to congratulate Wayne Rooney on his latest award

Bastian Schweinsteiger has taken to social media to offer his congratulations to Wayne Rooney after the Manchester United striker was named the England player of the year.

Three Lions skipper Rooney scored five times in eight games for England in 2015 and broke Sir Bobby Charlton’s long-standing record to become the national side’s all-time top scorer with 50 goals.

Schweinsteiger has been lining up with Rooney for Manchester United since his summer transfer to Old Trafford from Bayern Munich during the summer transfer window.

And the German World Cup winner sent a personal message to the England man on Instagram to congratulate him on his award.

Schweinsteiger posted the picture above on the photo-sharing app and wrote: “Once more, congrats to @waynerooney named England’s Player of the Year.”
