Brendan Rodgers believes Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas hold the key to Chelsea’s revival this season.

The Blues pair combined for the Spain striker’s goal in a 3-3 draw with Everton at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League on Saturday evening.

Costa and Fabregas were vital components of Jose Mourinho’s title-winning side last season after the Spanish duo completed summer moves to the Blues in the summer of 2014.

And Rodgers, who was sacked by Liverpool in October, explained how the Reds looked to temper the Chelsea pair when he was in charge of the Merseyside outfit.

“When we prepared to face Chelsea at Liverpool, Costa and Fabregas were the part of the game we tried to nullify,” Rodgers told Sky Sports.

“It’s that connection. As soon as Fabregas picks the ball up, Costa looks to run. The connection between those two is vital for Chelsea.”

Costa has scored seven times and has made three assists in 18 Premier League games so far this season.

Fabregas has struggled to hit the heights of the 2014/15 campaign after a disappointing return of one goal and three assists this term.
