Charlie Nicholas states his prediction for Liverpool v Exeter
Charlie Nicholas is expecting a straightforward win for Liverpool in the FA Cup on Wednesday night...
Charlie Nicholas is tipping Liverpool to return to winning ways in style by thrashing Exeter City 4-0 to reach the fourth round of the FA Cup on Wednesday night.
The Reds are looking to bounce back from the disappointment of their 1-0 loss to Manchester United at Anfield in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
Jurgen Klopp’s men have been struggling to find consistent form in recent weeks and were held to a 2-2 draw by Exeter in the FA Cup third round tie earlier this month.
However, former Arsenal man Nicholas is expecting the Reds to come out all guns blazing against their lower league opponents on Wednesday and wrap up a comfortable win.
Nicholas told Sky Sports: “This Liverpool team, as I’ve said often enough, can go away from home and play a pressing game but they are still really struggling to deliver when they’re expected to win.
“Christian Benteke is in and out of the side as Jurgen Klopp tries to find the right formula at home. I was asked on Soccer Saturday whether I thought Klopp would be a success, and it depends what you judge him on. I think it will take well into next season for him to implement his system successfully.
“As for Wednesday night, I think Benteke will return and there will be a bit of anger in this Liverpool team after what happened to them against Manchester United, resulting in a backlash for Exeter to deal with.”
Liverpool have struggled to string together a consistent series of results in the Premier League since Klopp’s appointment back in October.
The Merseyside outfit have only won four of their last 10 games in the English top flight and are currently ninth in the table.
