Chelsea have emerged as the surprise favourites to sign West Brom striker Saido Berahino this month, according to reports.

The forward’s future has been a relentless source of speculation in recent months after Tottenham had a number of bids for the 22-year-old rejected by West Brom during the summer transfer window.

Spurs are understood to still be keen on signing the striker, but Chelsea are now leading the race for his signature, according to The Sun.

Berahino only has 18 months remaining on his contract at The Hawthorns and the Baggies could be tempted into selling the forward either this month or at the end of the season, the British newspaper claims.

Chelsea are believed to be on the lookout for attacking reinforcements this month as Guus Hiddink looks to turn the Blues’ stuttering season around.
