Christian Benteke isn’t the answer for Liverpool, says former Chelsea star
Pat Nevin says Liverpool striker Christian Benteke needs to sort his head out
Pat Nevin has suggested that Christian Benteke doesn’t have a long-term future at Liverpool.
The Belgium international was a second-half substitute in Liverpool’s 5-4 victory over Norwich City at Carrow Road on Saturday.
I watched him go and warm up, honestly, you’d warm up more sitting in the seat
Benteke has only started one of Liverpool’s last three games in all competitions and the striker failed to find the net in a 3-0 FA Cup third-round replay win against League Two side Exeter City.
Former Everton and Chelsea midfielder Nevin believes Benteke will struggle to salvage a Liverpool career under Klopp.
“The answer certainly isn’t Christian Benteke,” Nevin told Newstalk.
“He started against Exeter. It was just all wrong. His head is all over the place.
“I watched him go and warm up, honestly, you’d warm up more sitting in the seat. He was standing out there watching the game for 25 minutes. His head isn’t in the right place at all right now.”
Benteke became Liverpool’s second most-expensive signing of all-time in the summer transfer window after Jurgen Klopp’s predecessor Brendan Rodgers signed the Belgian in a £32.5m deal from Aston Villa.
The 25-year-old striker has scored six goals and has made three assists in 20 Premier League games for the Merseyside outfit so far this season.
The Reds face Leicester City in their next Premier League on Tuesday 2 February.
