Danny Mills pinpoints what Liverpool need in January transfer window
Danny Mills discusses what Liverpool should be looking to do in the transfer window
Danny Mills has told Liverpool to consider signing defensive reinforcements this month as Jurgen Klopp looks to guide the Reds to a top-four finish in his first season in charge of the club.
The Merseyside outfit have already moved quickly to bring in defender Steven Caulker on loan from Queens Park Rangers until the end of the season following their latest spate of injury setbacks.
The Reds continue to be linked with a host of players during the mid-season transfer window as Klopp considers further bolstering his squad to be ready for the second half of the campaign.
Former England international Mills feels that Liverpool should make signing a new goalkeeper a priority.
The ex-Leeds United defender also believes that Liverpool are greatly in need of more defensive reinforcements due to a series of shaky performances at the back this season.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Sportlobster, Mills said: “Jurgen Klopp should be looking for new recruits.
“I’m not convinced by Simon Mignolet this season and he either needs more competition or a replacement and with a host of central-defensive injuries they’ve had to dip into the transfer market this month already with the loan signing of Steven Caulker from QPR. He’s been out of favour at a struggling Southampton and relegated from his two previous clubs before that.
“I think it’s a little bit of desperation from Liverpool and his arrival only provides cover for their injuries in defence. Dejan Lovren simply hasn’t worked out for them and Martin Skrtel really needs some assistance.
“I also think they, like most of the Premier League clubs, should be looking at bringing in another striker. The problem with Liverpool is that there are a lot of good players at Liverpool at the moment but there aren’t too many great ones.”
