Danny Murphy tells Jurgen Klopp to show faith in Liverpool starlet
Danny Murphy wants to see Jordon Ibe given more playing time at Liverpool...
Danny Murphy has urged Jurgen Klopp to give Jordon Ibe a regular run of games so the Liverpool youngster can prove himself as worthy of a starting place in his team.
The 20-year-old attacking midfielder was a second-half substitute and played the final 14 minutes as Liverpool slumped to a disappointing 1-0 defeat by bitter rivals Manchester United at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.
Ibe has been limited to just seven Premier League starts for the Merseyside outfit so far this term, making 11 appearances from the bench in the top flight.
He has not found the net in the top flight so far this season and has notched up one assist for his team-mates.
Former Liverpool midfielder Murphy wants to see Ibe given a regular run of games in the first-team and is backing the youngster to live up to his potential at the Merseyside outfit.
Murphy told talkSPORT: “Jordon Ibe is well thought of at the club and I think he could go on to be a really good player for Liverpool – but he does need games.
“Sometimes Ibe plays with a little bit of fear, fear that maybe he might not be picked next week if he doesn’t play well or makes a mistake.
“He needs games to gain a bit of confidence, and when you play more often you get that confidence.
“I thought he played really well last week [in the thrilling 3-3 draw with Arsenal], and I love his pace and his ability to go past people.
“I was surprised he didn’t start against United, I really was. I’m not sure Jurgen Klopp knows his best 11 at the moment.”
