Danny Murphy tells Liverpool to sign this player in January transfer window
Danny Murphy wants Liverpool to make a January transfer bid to sign Marc Andre-Ter Stegen from Barcelona
Danny Murphy wants Liverpool to make a January transfer bid to sign Marc Andre-Ter Stegen to add competition for first-choice goalkeeper Simon Mignolet at Anfield.
The Reds have been linked with a number of shot-stoppers as Jurgen Klopp considers bolstering his options between the posts during his first transfer window as Liverpool manager.
Murphy wants to see the Reds look to strengthen their squad this month following their 2-0 defeat by West Ham United on Saturday – and the former Liverpool man feels that Stegen would make a good signing for the Merseyside outfit.
Murphy told talkSPORT: “If you ask any Liverpool fan, a new goalkeeper either in January or the summer would probably top their transfer priorities and Murphy seems to agree.
“Simon Mignolet does not invoke confidence, despite topping the clean sheet charts in 2015, while Adam Bogdan’s display at Watford recently points to an even flimsier deputy.
“A move for Barcelona goalkeeper Marc Andre-Ter Stegen has been mooted, although the Catalans would ask for up to £27m for the young German stopper. Jurgen Klopp’s influence in Germany could prove a telling factor in any approach for the 23-year-old.”
Liverpool have struggled to string together a series of consistent performances since Klopp was appointed as Brendan Rodgers’ successor at Anfield back in October.
