David May sends Man United warning to Jose Mourinho

David May has some words of warning for Jose Mourinho before he considers the Manchester United job

David May has warned Jose Mourinho that he must familiarise himself with the traditions of Manchester United if he were to take over from Louis van Gaal at Old Trafford.

Mourinho has been touted as a possible candidate to take over from Van Gaal in recent weeks, with the Dutchman finding himself under pressure following a string of disappointing results and below-par performances.

United twice squandered the lead as they were held to a 3-3 draw by Newcastle United in the Premier League on Tuesday night, meaning they have now only won three of their last 10 top-flight games.

Mourinho has been linked with a host of top jobs in world football following his sacking by Chelsea back in December.

However, former Red Devils defender May feels that Mourinho could have to change his philosophy should he be appointed as Van Gaal’s successor at United in the future.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with 888Sport, May said: “My first question would be how long is he going to stay?

“If he’s here for 10 years then that’s fine but Mourinho must also realise that the fans are blood-thirsty for attacking football whereas he’s turned up at Old Trafford before now without a centre forward.

“If he does that two or three times a season then fair enough. You can expect it going to Liverpool or Arsenal but even then you don’t want 10 men behind the ball and think a draw is a good result.”
