Wayne Rooney scored a 78th-minute winner at Anfield as Manchester United were 1-0 winners against Liverpool.

Adam Lallana had the best chance of the first half in Sunday’s early kick-off but David De Gea managed to smother the England midfielder’s attempt.

Liverpool midfielder Emre Can and Roberto Firmino were also thwarted by the United goalkeeper before Rooney netted with 12 minutes remaining on Merseyside.
