Ferdinand, Van der Sar and more: Twitter reacts as Man United draw with Newcastle
Rio Ferdinand and Edwin van der Sar take to Twitter after Manchester United play out a thrilling 3-3 draw with Newcastle
Paul Dummett denied Louis van Gaal a much-needed win as Manchester United twice surrendered a winning position to draw 2-2 with Newcastle United.
Wayne Rooney appeared to have scored a brilliant winner for the Red Devils when he restored the away side’s lead with 11 minutes remaining thanks to a long-range strike.
However, Newcastle defender Dummett proved the unlikely saviour for the Toon as his strike deflected off Chris Smalling and past David De Gea in added time.
Earlier, Van Gaal’s side had stormed into a 2-0 lead thanks to Wayne Rooney’s penalty and Jesse Lingard’s 38th-minute goal, before Newcastle levelled the game after Georginio Wijnaldum halved the deficit and Aleksandar Mitrovic levelled from the spot.
Here is the best of the Twitter reaction from the professionals, past and present, examining the key talking points of the game.
Unsurprisingly, the first-half penalty sparked plenty of debate:
Penalty all day for me

Can we stop talking about deliberate handball! 99% of penalties given for handball aren't deliberate!!
— Jamie Carragher (@Carra23) January 12, 2016
Are we giving penalties for that now..? Just ANY ball to hand contact?
— Jason Roberts (@JasonRoberts30) January 12, 2016
For me definite penalty. Mbemba is looking at Fellaini. No reason for arm to be there jumping or not.

Don't know what all the fuss is about with Loius Van Gaal's side. It's like watching Brazil.
