Glenn Hoddle makes bold claim about Arsenal and Tottenham’s title hopes
Glenn Hoddle claims that Tottenham Hotspur have the edge over local rivals Arsenal in the Premier League title race
Glenn Hoddle has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur have the edge over Arsenal in the Premier League title race.
The Gunners kicked off 2016 with a battling 1-0 win over Newcastle United at Emirates Stadium on Saturday to move them two points clear at the top of the Premier League table.
Spurs, meanwhile, headed into the new year in fourth place in the table and tipped to be outsiders to win the Premier League title this season.
Many are predicting that this season’s title race will come down to a straight shootout between Arsenal and Manchester City as the campaign unfolds.
However, former Tottenham man Hoddle feels that Spurs have been one of the Premier League’s most consistent teams this season and is backing them to sustain a serious title challenge.
Hoddle wrote in his column for the Daily Mail ahead of Tottenham’s trip to Everton on Sunday: “In this extraordinary season, with Chelsea falling by the wayside, Manchester United weaker than ever, Manchester City inconsistent and even Arsenal prone to some awful performances, they [Spurs] have an opportunity which may not present itself again.
“In fact, I would go as far to say that other than Leicester City, Tottenham have been the most consistent side in the Premier League this season. Unlike Arsenal, their defeats haven’t been meltdowns.
“There have only been two, and one of those came from a last-minute Newcastle goal. The other was on the first day of the season at Manchester United. Their back four looks to be the best, having conceded the fewest goals this season.”
Arsenal are looking to win their first Premier League title since their unbeaten triumph back in 2003-04.
