Graeme Le Saux: Why Liverpool supporters will never trust Simon Mignolet
Graeme Le Saux runs the rule over under-fire Liverpool number one Simon Mignolet
Graeme Le Saux says Simon Mignolet is facing a losing battle to convince Liverpool supporters that he is the right man to be the club’s No1.
The Belgium international signed a new five-year deal at Anfield on Monday evening, which will keep the shot stopper at the Merseyside club until 2021.
He’s got to do 99 things right to compensate for the one thing he doesn’t do right and those are hard odds

Mignolet has been criticised for a number of mistakes made during the 2015/16 campaign under current manager Jurgen Klopp and his predecessor, Brendan Rodgers.
Liverpool have conceded 28 goals in 22 Premier League games so far this season, which includes three against Arsenal in last Wednesday’s 3-3 draw at Anfield.
Former Chelsea defender Le Saux says Mignolet’s infrequent mistakes have undermined the goalkeeper’s good performances and his positive attributes.
“A reputation can either go for you or against you and if there has been a reaction from Liverpool fans its because they don’t trust him or are looking at just one part of his game rather than the whole of it. They’re entitled to that opinion,” said Le Saux, speaking exclusively to 888poker.com.
“He sometimes looks a bit vulnerable with the ball at his feet which gives people kittens and sometimes his distribution lets him down. His shot-stopping reactions are fantastic and he’s a really good goalkeeper but he’s got to do 99 things right to compensate for the one thing he doesn’t do right and those are hard odds.”
Mignolet moved to 18-time English champions Liverpool from Sunderland in a £9m deal in 2013.
The Belgian goalkeeper has made 121 appearances for Liverpool over two-and-a-half seasons at the Merseyside outfit.
