Graeme Souness makes bold prediction about Chelsea’s season

Graeme Souness says Chelsea still have an outside chance of a top-four finish

Graeme Souness says Chelsea still have an outside chance of a top-four finish this season.

Guus Hiddink’s side gave their Champions League ambitions a timely boost after a 1-0 victory over 10-man Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

Arsenal defender Per Mertesacker received his marching orders after he hauled down Costa in the 18th minute in north London.

The controversial Spain international broke the deadlock five minutes later to score what proved to be the winner and leave Chelsea 14 points behind fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur.

While Souness conceded Chelsea would need to go on an impressive run to catch their London rivals, the former Liverpool captain insisted the Blues shouldn’t be written off in the top-four battle.

Souness told Sky Sports: “A new manager comes in, I thought Guus Hiddink would get a quicker response than he has had. He got a response [on Sunday].

“They won’t talk about it openly, but 14 points may sound a lot, but it isn’t. Chelsea may end up in fourth place.

“They need to go on a run. These are a group of guys used to winning things.”

Chelsea are seven points clear of the relegation zone following their close-fought victory over Arsenal.
