Graeme Souness: Why Liverpool fans shouldn’t judge Jurgen Klopp for 18 months
Graeme Souness says Jurgen Klopp has made an up-and-down start to his Liverpool career
Graeme Souness say Jurgen Klopp has made an up-and-down start to his Liverpool reign.
The Reds are in ninth place in the Premier League table following a three-game winless run in the English top-flight.
Liverpool have secured impressive wins at Chelsea and Manchester City, but lost at Newcastle United, Watford and West Ham United.
The Merseyside outfit have made good progress in the Capital One Cup, Europa League and FA Cup under Klopp, though.
Speaking to Sky Sports on Thursday afternoon, Souness discussed Klopp’s impact at the 18-time English champions since taking over the reins from Brendan Rodgers.
“There is no magic wand. When you go into a club, you’re working with what you got,” Souness said.
“You’ve got the job because not everything at the club is right or the team is underperforming. It has been up and down but he has endeared himself to the Liverpool supporters. He has a personality which they love.
“The time to judge him will be a year or 18 months time when he has had a couple of windows to shop around and bring in what he needs.”
Liverpool are eight points behind fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur in the race for a place in next season’s Champions League.
The Reds make the trip to Norwich City in their next Premier League game at Carrow Road in Saturday’s early kick-off.
Liverpool have won their last five games at Carrow Road in the Premier League.
