Graeme Souness: What Tottenham must do to challenge for the title
Graeme Souness has a warning for Tottenham if Spurs want to challenge for the Premier League title
Graeme Souness has warned Tottenham Hotspur that they must keep Harry Kane and Toby Alderweireld fit for the rest of the season if they want to challenge for the Premier League title.
Spurs kicked off 2016 with a 1-1 draw at Everton on Sunday afternoon as the Lilywhites came from a goal down to earn a point thanks to Dele Alli’s brilliant equaliser at Goodison Park.

Sunday’s result left Tottenham in fourth place in the Premier League table and six points behind leaders Arsenal heading into the new year.
The north London side have been tipped as possible outsiders to win the title this season behind favourites Arsenal and Manchester City.
Former Liverpool man Souness feels that Spurs could have what it takes to continue to challenge for the title this season – as long as they are able to keep two of their key players fit.
Speaking on Sky Sports after Sunday’s draw at Goodison Park, Souness said: “I think they are [title contenders], they’ve got lots of young, enthusiastic players, fresh legs in midfield, they can chop and change that. They’ve got a fabulous goalkeeper.
“Toby Alderweireld, they’ve got to keep him fit, he’s a bit of rock at the back for them.
“The biggest thing is keeping Harry Kane fit and fresh because beyond that they haven’t got anyone to come in and get the goals he can.

“We saw them three weeks ago against Newcastle and they were poor, they just ran out of ideas. But on that showing today and looking at the results over the Christmas period, they’ve got the bit between their teeth.”
