Ian Wright makes reluctant confession about Tottenham this season

Ian Wright believes that Tottenham Hotspur have what it takes to challenge for the Premier League title this season

Ian Wright admits that Tottenham Hotspur are showing themselves to be genuine Premier League title contenders this season.

Spurs have been one of the top flight’s most consistent teams this term and have only lost two Premier League games so far in the 2015-16 campaign.

I think they are serious title contenders this time

The Lilywhites battled back from a goal down to earn a 1-1 draw at Everton in their first game of the new year on Sunday afternoon to leave them in fourth place in the Premier League table and six points behind leaders Arsenal.

Mauricio Pochettino’s initial task will be guiding the north London side to a top-four finish and qualification for next season’s Champions League.

However, Arsenal legend Wright believes that Spurs have what it takes to mount a serious assault on the title in the second half of the season to challenge the likes of Manchester City and the Gunners.

Wright wrote in his column for The Sun: “In [Dele] Alli, Harry Kane, Eric Dier, and Mousa Dembele, when he’s fit again, Tottenham have players who can turn games and who won’t be discouraged from trying something a bit different. They are fearless.

“Spurs have also got a top goalkeeper in Hugo Lloris and there is a spine to the team that suggests there is no way they will blow up after putting themselves in a challenging position, like they have in the past.

“I could be wrong. I hope I am! But even though it was a bit worrying they didn’t get the three points their performance at Goodison deserved, I think they are serious title contenders this time.”
