Jamie Carragher makes controversial claim about Liverpool win

Jamie Carragher says Liverpool's 5-4 win at Norwich City was madder game than their Uefa Cup win in 2001

Jamie Carragher sparked debate on social media after the retired Reds defender described Saturday’s 5-4 win at Norwich as “a madder game” than their Uefa Cup final in 2001.

Liverpool snatched a dramatic three points in controversial fashion as Adam Lallana scored a winner in the fifth minute of added time at Carrow Road on Saturday afternoon.

The Reds had initially led thanks to Roberto Firmino’s goal before Norwich netted three without reply to put the Canaries firmly in charge.

Firmino, James Milner and Jordan Henderson appeared to have secured a 4-3 win with second-half goals before Sebastien Bassong levelled in the first minute of injury-time.

But Lallana had the final say to seal a 5-4 win, which was the same scoreline as Liverpool’s Uefa Cup final triumph over Alaves in 2001.

Former Reds defender Carragher made the claim that their win over the Canaries was even crazier than the European final, which Liverpool won after Gary MacAllister’s free-kick was deflected into the Spanish side’s net in extra-time.

However, some Liverpool supporters didn’t agree with Carragher.
