Jamie Carragher makes prediction about Man United’s season

Jamie Carragher discusses Manchester United's current run of poor form...

Jamie Carragher believes that Manchester United are likely to stick with Louis van Gaal until the end of the season, despite their stuttering form.

The Dutchman watched the Red Devils slump to a disappointing 1-0 loss to Southampton on Saturday as Charlie Austin came of the bench to head home a late winner.

The result left United in fifth place in the Premier League table and five points behind Tottenham in fourth as the race for Champions League qualification hots up.

United have come in for plenty of criticism for their below-par displays in recent months, with Van Gaal’s men having only won two of their last 10 Premier League games.

But despite the pressure mounting on Van Gaal, former Liverpool defender Carragher feels that the Red Devils are likely to stick with the Dutchman until the end of the season.

Speaking on Sky Sports on Sunday, Carragher said: “It [United’s style of play] is not going to change now. That’s what we’ve been seeing for 18 months. You can get away with it to a certain extent if you’re getting the results. But United fans weren’t happy with that really.

“For 18 months, that’s how he’s wanted the team to play and how they’ve set up.

“It’s all about the top four. It’s about money, whatever you say. That five-point gap now, that’s the big thing, not so much the performances or the results.

“For the people who make the decisions, it’s missing out on the Champions League. And if they think they’re going to miss out on it now, will they make a change now? I can’t see it.”
