Jamie Carragher predicts where Man United will finish this season
Jamie Carragher does not believe that Manchester United are genuine Premier League title contenders this season
Jamie Carragher believes that Manchester United must focus on securing a top-four finish in the Premier League this season and forget about a title challenge.
Carragher watched the Red Devils secure a 1-0 win over Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday afternoon as Wayne Rooney’s late goal handed the visitors a crucial victory on Merseyside.
The narrow victory lifted United up to fifth place in the Premier League table and just two points behind fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur.
Former Liverpool defender Carragher does not feel that United have what it takes to challenge for the title this season but feels that Champions League qualification is within reach for Louis van Gaal’s men.
Speaking on Sky Sports after United’s 1-0 win at Liverpool, ex-England international Carragher said: “That performance that you saw from United was what we’ve seen for most of the season.
“These games are all about winning and that’s what United have done. But United didn’t play particularly well today, you can’t say that they deserved to win. They’ve had a little bit of luck and they’ve won it.
“In terms of the grand scheme of things and talk of the title I think United’s focus is trying to get back into that top four.”
