Jamie Carragher reserved special praise for Kolo Toure after Liverpool’s 1-0 victory over Stoke City.
The Reds seized the advantage in the League Cup semi-final tie thanks to Jordon Ibe’s first-half strike at the Britannia Stadium.
Ibe was a replacement for Philippe Coutinho and Dejan Lovren was replaced by James Milner after the Liverpool pair appeared to suffer a hamstring injuries in the first half.
Toure partnered Lucas Leiva at the centre of the away side’s defence for the remainder of the game in the absence of injured Lovren.
Former Liverpool centre-half Carragher singled out the Ivory international for special praise following the Reds’s battling performance.

Liverpool have beaten Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium in their last three meetings in the League Cup following Tuesday night’s victory over Mark Hughes’s Potters side.
The Reds welcome Stoke to Anfield in the second leg on 26 January.

Coutinho and Lovren join a mounting injury list, with Jon Flanagan, Mamadou Sakho, Joe Gomez, Jordan Henderson, Jordan Rossiter, Daniel Sturridge, Divock Origi and Danny Ings.
