Jamie Carragher: Why Tottenham star Dele Alli has impressed me
Jamie Carragher says Dele Alli is consistently one of Tottenham Hotspur's best players
Jamie Carragher has heaped praise on Tottenham Hotspur’s rising star Dele Alli.
The newly-fledged England international scored the north London side’s equaliser in Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Everton at Goodison Park in the Premier League.
Alli has already scored five goals and has made three assists in 17 top-flight games so far in his first season in the Premier League after his summer move from MK Dons.
While Carragher pointed out that Alli has consistently been one of Mauricio Pochettino’s best players this term, the Liverpool legend stated that the 19-year-old’s versatility has really impressed the Sky Sports pundit.
“Every time you talk about Spurs you think he’s been one of the best players on the pitch,” Carragher told Sky Sports.
“Initially he’s been a central midfield player at MK Dons and, coming into the Premier League, he played there for a few weeks then he’s gone into the position off the front and it’s a totally different position really,” Carragher continued.
“You’re playing with your back to goal at times and when you’re in central midfield you’re facing the play, so that also shows his understanding at such a young age to play different roles.”
Alli scored Tottenham’s only goal at Goodison Park after the Spurs midfielder had seven attempts on Tim Howard’s goal, three of which were on target.
The England midfielder, who scored his first Three Lions goal in a 2-0 victory over France at Wembley in November, moved to Tottenham in a £5m deal from League One side MK Dons in the summer.
