Jamie Redknapp makes bold claim about Chelsea’s top-four hopes
Jamie Redknapp still feels that Chelsea are in with a chance of a top-four finish this season
Jamie Redknapp believes that Chelsea are capable of stringing together a series of positive results to secure a top-four finish in the Premier League this season.
Many have written off the Blues in the race for Champions League qualification after a disastrous start to the season left them languishing closer to the relegation zone than the top of the Premier League table.
Chelsea kicked off 2016 with an impressive 3-0 win over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park thanks to goals from Oscar, Willian and Diego Costa.
That result left the west London side in 14th place in the Premier League table and 13 points behind fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur.
And former Liverpool and Tottenham man Redknapp feels that the Blues cannot be written off in the race to secure qualification for next season’s Champions League.
Redknapp wrote in his column for the Daily Mail: “Thirteen points is a big gap to make up but you still can’t rule out Chelsea for reaching the top four.
“The shackles are off and Chelsea are a dangerous animal when there’s no pressure on them. They have a top-class squad and plenty of teams will still be scared of Chelsea.
“On the other hand, Guus Hiddink’s men will play with no fear and if they can put together a run of five or six wins they still have a chance.
“At Crystal Palace, Willian showed his quality yet again and he is the one man who can hold his head high this season.
“Chelsea have a tricky run to come — West Brom, Everton, Arsenal, Watford and Man United. Win them and they will be right back on track.”
Chelsea’s next Premier League game is a home clash against West Brom on 13 January.
