Joey Barton: Why Saido Berahino would be good Tottenham signing
Joey Barton says Saido Berahino would add much-needed depth to Tottenham Hotspur squad
Joey Barton has endorsed reports that Tottenham Hotspur are on the brink of signing Saido Berahino from West Brom.
The 22-year-old was omitted from Chelsea’s match-day squad for their trip to Southampton on Saturday afternoon after Baggies manager Tony Pulis confirmed the striker is for sale.
Berahino has been linked with a move to the Lilywhites for the best part of 12 months, however, a move failed to materialise in the last two transfer windows.
Speaking to BT Sport ahead of Tottenham Hotspur’s 4-1 victory over Sunderland at The Lane on Saturday afternoon, Barton explained why Berahino would be a good addition to Mauricio Pochettino’s squad.
“It looks like Berahino. I think they need cover for Harry Kane because they look thin beyond that. He is very unsettled,” Barton told BT Sport.
Berahino has scored three goals in 16 Premier League appearances so far this season.
However, the England Under-21 international has only started eight of West Brom’s 22 Premier League games this term.
Christian Eriksen’s brace and goals from Mousa Dembele and Harry Kane sealed a 4-1 win for Tottenham against Sunderland on Saturday.
