John Barnes tells Liverpool to do this in the January transfer window
John Barnes feels Liverpool should consider making some loan signings in the January transfer window
John Barnes has urged Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp to consider bolstering his squad with loan signings this month.
The Reds lost three key players to injury on Tuesday night as Philippe Coutinho, Dejan Lovren and Kolo Toure all picked up hamstring problems during the 1-0 win at Stoke City in the League Cup.
The trio have added to an already lengthy injury list at Anfield, which includes the likes of Martin Skrtel and Daniel Sturridge.
Barnes is not convinced that Liverpool need to splash the cash on permanent reinforcements despite their mounting injury problems.
However, the former Liverpool star feels that the Reds would benefit from bringing in some cover on temporary deals to ease their injury woes in the second half of the season.
Barnes wrote on his blog for Titanbet: “Perhaps the only positive about injuries coming now is the fact the transfer window is open.
“Clubs in the past have bought for the sake of buying, and I don’t want to see Liverpool do that, regardless of how bad things may be in terms of available numbers.
“That said, reinforcements are needed, and the loan market may be one that the club need to explore. Of course if the right player is available for the right price a deal should be chased regardless, but why buy players who in a matter of months may be out of the team? Loan moves make sense.”
Liverpool kicked off 2016 with a disappointing 2-0 defeat at West Ham United but returned to winning ways with a narrow victory over the Potters in midweek.
