Johnny Giles: Why Man United manager Louis van Gaal won’t last the season

Johnny Giles believes Louis van Gaal will struggle to win over the Manchester United dressing room

Louis van Gaal won’t stay at Manchester United beyond the end of the season, according to Johnny Giles.

The Red Devils players produced one of their best performances of the season in a goalless draw with defending Premier League champions Chelsea at Old Trafford on Monday night.

However, Van Gaal is still under pressure after extending their winless run to eight games amid reports linking Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho with the Old Trafford job.

Former United midfielder Giles can’t see Van Gaal lasting at the Red Devils beyond the end of the season after suggesting the Dutchman has lost the dressing room in recent weeks.

“It is a complicated situation. It was bad signs last week when he apparently agreed to change training methods and attitude to the game,” Giles told Newstalk’s Off The Ball.

“It is a difficult one for Manchester United. If he has lost the dressing room, it is difficult to get it back. I don’t think he’ll last until the end of the season.”

United are in sixth place in the Premier League table and nine points behind current leaders Arsenal after 19 games.
