Juan Mata: Beating Liverpool would be huge confident boost for Man United

Juan Mata says Manchester United are facing a huge week in their season

Juan Mata says beating Newcastle United and Liverpool over the next six days would be a huge boost for Manchester United heading into second half of the season.

The Red Devils recorded back-to-back wins for the first time since November on Saturday evening thanks to victories over Swansea City and Sheffield United over the past week or so.

Winning both would be a huge boost of confidence now that the second half of the season is starting

However, the 20-time English champions were criticised for a poor attacking performance against the League One side in the third round of the FA Cup at Old Trafford on Saturday.

And Mata believes beating Newcastle as well as a victory over the bitter rivals Liverpool at Anfield next Sunday would provide the injection of confidence that United so need.

“We go to Newcastle now and to Liverpool on the weekend, in one of the main games of our season,” Mata wrote on his blog.

“These are two difficult away games but we want to keep moving towards our goals. Winning both would be a huge boost of confidence now that the second half of the season is starting.”

Mata moved to the Red Devils in a £37.1m deal from defending Premier League champions Chelsea in January 2013.
