Jurgen Klopp discusses Liverpool’s latest transfer developments
Jurgen Klopp says he won't waste Liverpool's money on overpaid talent
Jurgen Klopp has reassured Liverpool supporters that he won’t waste the club’s money on overpaid talent.
The Reds boss has been linked with a £24.6m move for Shakthar Donetsk midfielder Alex Teixeira over the past week as Klopp looks to bolster his attacking options.
Borussia Dortmund defender Neven Subotic and Schalke 04 defensive midfielder Joel Matip have also been linked with a move to the Merseyside outfit.
However, Klopp has only signed Serbian teenager Marko Grujic and Queens Park Rangers defender Steven Caulker on loan so far in the January transfer window.
The Liverpool stressed that he won’t be spending money like he is in Disneyland ahead of the Reds’s clash against Norwich City on Saturday afternoon.
“I am a normal, smart guy so why should I throw away money?” Klopp told his pre-match media conference.
“I cannot say it is only money going somewhere else. We have money but we are not in Disneyland and say ‘come on, take what you want’.
“We have a budget, we work with it, we have a lot of things to do. The club is building a stand, things like this, this is for the long-term development of the club.
“Don’t stand still, don’t only live for now. This is for the future, that is why I’m here. I know I can handle pressure really good, it is no problem for me.
“For 48 years, my whole life, I have had pressure. I’m used to it. Now we have a situation where we think ‘what will help?’.”
Liverpool are ninth place in the Premier League table following a three-game winless run in the English top flight.
The Reds have won their last five games at Carrow Road ahead of their Saturday clash against the Canaries.
