Jurgen Klopp: What I’ve made of Louis van Gaal’s Man United impact
Jurgen Klopp says Louis van Gaal is one of the best managers in the world ahead of Liverpool v Man United
Jurgen Klopp says Louis van Gaal is one of the best managers in the world ahead of Liverpool’s clash against Manchester United on Sunday.
The Red Devils boss has been under pressure since December and United have only beaten Swansea City in their last eight Premier League games.
He has a special idea of football, so as an opponent, you have to respect this
Klopp faced Van Gaal during the Dutchman’s spell in charge of Bayern Munich, and the Liverpool boss won two of their four encounters in the Bundesliga.
Speaking at his pre-match media conference at Melwood training ground on Friday, Klopp underlined his respect for Van Gaal and the 64-year-old’s methods.
“I’m not too close with the news about Manchester United in recent weeks,” Klopp said.
“I watched this week against Newcastle. But the stories around I’m not interested in. LVG is one of the most-successful managers in the world, he won many titles, not only in Germany.
“He has a special idea of football, so as an opponent, you have to respect this. Newcastle was a special game. Newcastle did really well. United reacted really good in this game.”
Liverpool have lost their last four games against the Red Devils since a 3-0 victory at Old Trafford in 2014.
United are in sixth place and three points ahead of the Merseyside outfit in the race for the final Champions League spot.
The Red Devils were held to a 3-3 draw at St James’s Park on Tuesday night before Joe Allen netted a late equaliser for Klopp’s side in a 3-3 draw with leaders Arsenal.
