Jurgen Klopp: Why I have to show respect for this Liverpool defender

Jurgen Klopp heaps praise on Liverpool centre-half Kolo Toure

Jurgen Klopp has singled out Kolo Toure for special praise after Liverpool’s 3-3 draw with Arsenal on Wednesday night.

The Ivory Coast defender started alongside Mamadou Sakho as the Liverpool pair faced one of the Premier League’s most-prolific attacks so far this season.

Roberto Firmino twice put Liverpool into a first-half lead but Aaron Ramsey pegged back the Reds initially, before Olivier Giroud equalised before half-time.

The France striker added his second of the night in the 55th minute before Liverpool substitute Joe Allen netted a dramatic equaliser in added time.

While summer signing Firmino was Liverpool’s standout performer on Wednesday night, Klopp was particularly pleased with the performance of 35-year-old veteran, Toure.

“If we talk tonight about special performances, Kolo Toure… I have to show more than my respect because it is not easy and he did great, as did a lot of other players. You saw it,” Klopp told his post-match media conference.

Toure has been drafted into the Liverpool starting line-up in recent weeks following injuries to Martin Skrtel, Dejan Lovren and Sakho.
